The Effects of Music

The effects music can have on a person are numerous. An example I've heard personally is its therapeutic effects on those with Alzheimers. The old woman had lost nearly all of her memory, she couldn't even recognize her own daughter, but she could remember all the church songs from when she was little. This story is backed up by science. That's not all. Music can also reduce stress, improve healing, and can be an excellent method of communication and self expression.

A high cortex volume in a person's brain means they have a lot of potential to change. They say the cortex volume of the brain is highest in musicians. Playing For Change is the embodiment of this fact.

In the video, “Stand By Me|Playing For Change|Song Around the World” by Playing For Change, I immediately took notice of the fact that all of the performers in the video are street performers.

I started to think of how that is a significant detail. Surely if the makers of this video were to use celebrities in it, Bruno Mars, Childish Gambino, The Weekend, to name a few, it would have gotten tons of views, more than it already has. However, they didn’t, and even though this video was made 12 years ago it has an astonishing amount of views.

The usage of them having these ordinary yet extraordinary people in this video has an impact that you really don’t see these days that much. It humanizes the whole concept. The concept of people from different backgrounds, upbringings, and races all coming together to make something beautiful. The fact that he chose to send this message through music with all these talented people that he found all over the world over the course of 10 years shows a true love for the art. This entire thing is just a prime example of the greatest effect music can have on another person. Inspiration.

No matter who you are, or where you are, we are all human and we all feel, and we are all moved by music in different ways. The video illustrates how much in common we have despite how far apart we all are, especially recently, and together we can all make the world better. Together we are more powerful than anyone could ever imagine, we can do anything, and I for one happen to think that’s pretty damn cool.
