Is Edison a Fraud?


 Thomas Edison is a fraud? 

   Thomas Edison is a rather controversial person to speak about. Did he or did he not actually invent the lightbulb? Everyone knows that he has taken credit for this amazing feat, but, does he truly deserve this glory?


    I am against this glamorized depiction of Mr.Edison. I refuse to fall into line with the cheaply made facade that he has created right in front of our very eyes. 


    Thomas Edison “invented” the lightbulb in 1879 as the following credible sources claim. He came up with the idea when he realized there was a flaw with Joseph Swans design, the filament. 


    Now we have the anterior side to discuss. Joseph Swan, a scientist. He is who many people, including me, claim really created the lightbulb. Swan produced the earliest electric lightbulb. 


    Now this is the million dollar question, why did Edison get all of this hype and glory, when poor Mr.Swan gets absolutely nothing? Swan is indeed the one who created the actual physical shell and early mechanics of the lightbulb, which then later Edison simply tweaked a small thing and gets the whole Christmas turkey. 


    Doesn’t seem very fair to me... but who said life was fair, I mean everything is rigged to keep those with power in power.


    The important thing to remember when talking about historical figures is that what's done is done. We can't change the past or find out if these people truly did or didn't do something, and even if we did it wouldn't exactly change much besides the context, in this case the context of a lightbulb. Putting it that way, does it truly matter? all the people this impacted are no longer with us so we must ask:

Is it really worth destroying a man's legacy that no longer exists, or should give credit to the person who truly deserves it?
